Deployment and planning

1. Requirement discovery: inventory AP/switch/gateway count, site distribution, and remote access requirements.
2. Hosting selection: choose cloud VM (for example Azure) or private infrastructure; in either model, establish firewall, backup, and monitoring baselines first.
3. Controller baseline setup: create sites, import devices, configure VLAN and SSID policies, and enable backup/certificate/notification controls.
4. Management-plane hardening: limit controller-management source networks and apply controlled account policy with strong authentication.

Cloud-to-private migration flow

1. Window planning: schedule migration during an approved maintenance period aligned with business risk.
2. Configuration export: generate UniFi backup bundle and verify inclusion of site, device, policy, and credential material.
3. Target import: build destination controller in private environment, import backup, and validate adopt/connect parity.
4. Controller reconnect cutover: update inform URL, DNS, and required NAT/ACL controls so AP/switch endpoints reattach correctly.
5. Stabilization checks: monitor offline rates, roaming behavior, and alert trends during observation period.

Lightweight managed operations model

1. Controlled update windows: run controller and firmware updates only in approved windows with pre-checks for version compatibility.
2. Alert-priority handling: classify alerts into informational, warning, and critical lanes; critical lane validates service continuity first.
3. Configuration-drift checks: periodically compare intended site/device policies against live state.

Common issues and triage order

1. Repeated device offline events: verify controller reachability and inform URL first, then DNS and inter-site firewall policy.
2. Post-migration adoption failure: compare certificate state, time synchronization, and controller-version compatibility.
3. Wi-Fi quality regression: validate channel plan, transmit power, and roaming thresholds against pre-migration baseline.
4. Alert-volume spike: check whether thresholds were carried from old environment without recalibration.

Technical validation checklist

1. Device reconnection ratio and post-migration configuration consistency meet expected baseline.
2. Management interfaces are limited to controlled source networks and account policy is active.
3. Update process includes compatibility checks and staged rollout records.
4. Alert-priority workflow is reproducible and operationally clear.
5. Observation window shows no sustained offline or roaming anomaly trend.
